77-year-old retired teacher continues to teach sans salary

Kendrapara: School is a temple and students are Lord Jagannath for Banabihari Das of Khakharuni village in Kendrapara district. Popular as Bana sir, the 77-year-old has been teaching students without any salary for the last 18 years post his retirement.

Setting a trend for others, Banabihari Das has been providing elementary education to the students at the village even at this age.

It is the passion of teaching that has been driving Banabihari to continue to educate children - the future of the nation, even after his retirement.

“Teaching students and looking after their individual needs, Bana sir has been a source of inspiration for many in the village,” said Prakash Panda, an ex-student.
