Bhawanipatna: Seven vehicles involved in road construction were set on fire allegedly by Maoists late last night at Jamakana under Sadar police limits in Kalahandi district.

Sources said as many as 40-50 ultras barged into a camp of the contractor involved in the Prdhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road construction from Gunduri to Kadama.

Maoists asked staff of the contractor to leave the place and thereafter, torched the road construction vehicles.

Some Maoist posters were also found at the spot in which they mentioned the torching of vehicles was undertaken in an opposition to the road construction.

Panic has gripped the area following the incident.

After a gap of more than seven months, Maoist have unleashed violence in the district. On March 18, a resident of Karlapat was killed by a group of armed Maoists.
