Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DG) RP Sharma inaugurated the 60th Senior Police Officers’ Conference of the Odisha Police at the Police Bhawan here on Tuesday.
Addressing the conference Sharma stressed on strengthening police-public relationship. He said it is the primary responsibility of police to bring back the misguided youth, who have joined naxal outfits, to the mainstream and make them aware about the vocational opportunities available for them.
Odisha police has done a wonderful job in tackling Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) but as the problem still exists, there is a need to evolve the strategies, said Sharma.
He further emphasised on extensive use of technology to deal with the recent challenges faced by cops in maintaining law and order, organised crimes and other new emerging trends including cyber crimes.
The DGP further asked the officers to make use of available resources as there has been no proportionate increase of manpower.
E-office facility will be implemented from State Police headquarters and later in all police stations across Odisha.
Sharma further informed that Model Police stations will be set up in every district and asked all the SPs to send names of at least two police stations by March 25.
Sharma asked all the young SPs to open counselling centres for women related crimes in their respective districts. He told them to replicate the system that is running successfully at the Police Commissionerate since 2014.
The conference that will continue for three days will be attended by SPs of all districts, DCPs, Commandants of all Armed Police Battalions, Range IGs, DIGs and under-training IPS officers.
Similarly, senior officers of various police establishments as well as the Home Guards, Fire Services and Civil Defence Organisation, State Vigilance, Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, Prison Organisation and OHRC are also participating in the conference that conclude on March 15.
Discussion on professional policing matters like law and order situation in the State, crime control measures, anti-Maoists strategy, effective use of social media, capacity building of police stations, people-friendly policing and ethical behaviour in policing will be discussed in the conference.
The Senior Police Officers’ Conference had not been held for over two years and several important issues including law and order and crime scenario and other issues that police needs to should focus on will be discussed for chalking out a strategy to tackle them.
