60-yr-old arrested for raping minor in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In one more addition to the shocking rise in cases of sexual abuse against minors, a 60 year-old man has been arrested for raping an 8-year-old girl in Bhubaneswar today.

The incident was reported from Rental colony on the outskirts of the capital city.

As per allegations, the accused, a 60-year-old man from the colony lured the minor girl with chocolate and raped her after taking her to the nearby Dasapur forest in Chandaka area.

Fortunately, some locals and the nearby forest officials spotted the accused and immediately caught hold of him before informing the police.

Later after preliminary enquiry police arrested the man and sent both the survivor and the accused for medical check-up.

Meanwhile, the family members of the girl have lodged a complaint at the Mahila Police Station.

"Since the accused was a neighbour of the girl's family he tried to lure the girl to satisfy his ill motives. Investigation is underway," DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

As per available statistics, in the last 11 months, as many as 16 minors have been victims of sexual abuse. Last year the number of such cases stood at 26.
