Bhubaneswar: The state government has approved a proposal to add 500 new panchayats ahead of the upcoming panchayat polls in 2017.
The decison has been taken based on the recommendations received from the district level and the State Election Commission (SEC) will be informed about the same in a month’s time, informed Panchayatiraj secretary Deoranjan Singh here today.
According to sources, a formal notification on the creation of the new panchyats will be published by the State government soon. The limits of the panchayats, wards, and reservations pertaining to the same will also be part of the notification.
Notably, there are 6211 panchayats in the state at present.
