5 children drown during Kartik Purnima celebrations in Odisha

Kendrapara/Balasore: As many as 5 children were killed in separate mishaps across the State while sailing paper boats as a part of the Kartik Purnima celebrations.

Rabindra Jena of Baunsaadia village under Kharasahapur Panchayat in Bahanaga block of Balasore district drowned in a pond while sailing paper boats. He was rescued by his parents and villager and was taken to the nearby Gopalpur health centre, where the doctors pronounced him dead.

A girl from Chotakanpur village under Nilagiri block in Balasore district also drowned during the Kartik Purnima celebrations.

Similarly, two boys drowned in Rankala and Nirarala villages respectively in Patkura area of Kendrapara district while collecting boats from a water body.

Moreover, another boy drowned in pond in Kaladia village under Aul block.
