Bhubaneswar: It was a momentous achievement in the career of four railway personnel when they were honoured by the East Coast Railways (ECoR) here on Wednesday for averting a major train mishap near Muniguda station in Rayagada district on Tuesday.
Sambalpur Divisional Railway Manager Jaideep Gupta felicitated loco pilot JV Ramana, assistant loco pilot MK Singh, gurad DD Nath, and track maintainer K Srinivas with a certificate of merit along with cash awards in recognition of their alertness, sincerity and prompt action to avert the mishap.
In an official release, ECoR said all the four had detected welding failure between Bissam Cuttack-Muniguda station and averted a possible mishap.
It was their presence of mind that saved hundreds of passengers travelling in the Visakhapatnam-Korba Express, it said.
The train was scheduled to pass through Muniguda station and stopped after detection of cracks in the railway line, the release said.
