Nayagarh: In a tragic incident, two women were killed and four women sustained critical injuries after a speeding car ran over them near Gania Tehsil office here on Friday afternoon.
While the deceased have been identified as Upasi Behera and her sister-in-law bearing the same name, the injured persons have been identified as Patara Behera, Janaki Behera, Indu Behera and Bandu Behera of Katanga village.
According to sources, the incident took place when the women were returning from paddy field after crop cutting.
A speeding car hit them causing the death of two women on the spot and leaving four others critically injured, sources added.
The injured persons have been shifted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital.

Following the mishap, tension ran high in the area as locals stage a road blockade on Gania-Kantilo road demanding compensation to the family members of the deceased.
Till the last report came in, police has seized the car and detained two person in this connection.
