Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park on Wednesday welcomed two new deer to its habitat as forest officials today translocated them from their home in Raj Bhawan.

The translocation of two female deer has been done on an experimental basis, informed a zoo official.

"We have made a separate space in Nandankanan for these deer as transit stay before their release into the wild," said Deputy Director of the park, Jayant Kumar Das.

"In the first phase, only two deer have been shifted. In the future, more will be shifted," Das added.

The translocation of these wild animals was necessitated following a rise in the deer population in the forest area within the Raj Bhawan, said sources.
