Boudh: In a socking incident, three persons were killed while two others critically injured as a crane engaged in the construction of Bagha irrigation project at Sagada overturned today.
The sluice gates of the under construction project broke down after the overloaded crane overturned on the gates. One died on the spot after coming under the debris while two others succumbed to injuries at Sonepur hospital. The deceased have been identified as Bhima Muduli, Ramadas Muduli and Tulu Kera of Auliguma in Nabarangpur district.
Two others identified as Devjani and Krushna Muduli are undergoing treatment at Sonepur hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical.
Boudh Collector and other administrative officials rushed to the spot and enquired about health condition of the injured persons. Later, the injured were shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, for better treatment.
Meanwhile, chief minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident. He announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 with free treatment for the injured. Besides, the CM also ordered the chief engineer (Mechanical) of Water Resources department to investigate the matter and submit report within three days.
