Nuapada: A total of 17 differently-abled persons of Kalimati village in the district have been identified for a monthly pension of Rs 500 by the district administration. A team of doctors along with some officials visited the village on Wednesday for the process.
"The officials have identified 17 differently-abled people who will get pension. In the first phase, 12 people will get the pension. They have assured us that the rest will also get soon," said a villager Damayanti Hati.
The village is not affected by any type of disease. Only two to three families have been found with disabilities, said Nuapada chief district medical officer (CDMO) Jagadish Mahanand adding, "Genetic or hereditary factors might be the reason behind these cases."
Later, Odisha BJP president and Nuapada MLA Basant Panda visited the village and discussed with the doctors on the issue.
OTV had earlier reported about the apathy of the State government towards the differently-abled people living in the village and stressed on the need for a high level team of doctors to take a stock of the situation.
