11 students fall ill after consuming sprouts

Khurda: At least 11 students of an Anganwadi centre in Aseli village under Lendu Panchayat near Nirakarpur here were taken ill on Tuesday allegedly after consuming sprouts.

According to sources, the students started vomiting and complained of stomach pain soon after having sprouts Monday night following which they were admitted to Khurda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment Tuesday afternoon.

"The condition of the students worsened last night and we therefore rushed them to the DHH. However, the exact cause of their illness is yet to be ascertained," said a doctor.

Meanwhile, sources said all the 11 children have been kept under observation in the children's ward. The condition of each child is being monitored continuously by doctors and at present the situation is under control and they are out of danger, sources added.
