1 held for attacking woman constable in Puri

Puri: A youth was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting a woman constable on duty in Puri. The accused has been identified as Jyotiprakash Samantray.

According to reports, Jyotiprakash allegedly misbehaved and assaulted the woman constable for stopping the car of his sister near Market Chhak yesterday.

Jyotiprakash's sister Debjani was driving the car when the lady constable Sabita Pradhan stopped her vehicle near the busy junction. Sabita, who has sustained multiple injuries in the attack, has been admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, the constable was attacked by Debjani  and her brother Jyotiprakash, who were aggrieved after their vehicle was detained at around 9: 15 pm yesterday. Following the incident, both Debjani and her brother were detained by police. Meanwhile, Debjani has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital today after she complained of illness during her detention at police station.

"The vehicle did not have any local pass or parking pass and its occupants forcibly tried to cross the junction after breaking the traffic signal," said injured constable Sabita .

Pradhan further alleged that she was manhandled and beaten by nearly three to four local youths.

"After we stopped the car, its driver misbehaved with us and insisted on crossing the junction," said another constable, Lalmohan Karma.
