Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities distributed saplings as green gifts to people of the Smart City on New Year's Day.
BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today appealed the denizens to do away with the use of plastics and polythene to make the capital clean and green.
“This is your city and the responsibility to decide its future lies upon your shoulders. We had requested the residents of Bhubaneswar to gift items on the theme of ‘Go Green’ which may include books, trees etc,” says the BMC Commissioner.
Asked about the challenges before the BMC in 2020, Chaudhary replied, “We will try to complete the new projects and try to get public involved in those projects to get their feedbacks. Our priority will be sanitation and approval of building plans by BDA and digitalising the public services,” added.
Earlier, the BMC had rolled out ‘Meal for Plastic’ initiative across all 11 Aahar centres in the city to beat
plastic pollution. An individual can avail one Aahar meal in exchange of half kilo plastic at any Aahar centre.
