Bargarh: Normal life has been affected in Bhatli of Bargarh district today due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh being observed by members of the BJP Yuva Morcha protesting arrest of their leader Irashish Acharya. Acharya was arrested on Thursday in connection with a firing incident that took place on June 1.
Following the bandh call, shops downed their shutters and vehicles stayed off roads since morning. Passengers were seen stranded at different stoppages as bus services remained suspended. Government offices also remained closed following the shut down. Supporters of Acharya have alleged that their leader has been falsely implicated to settle political scores.
Earlier on June 1, one Bulu Satnami from Chamarpada under Sohela police limits was found dead inside Acharya's residence with bullet injuries on his head. Police recovered a pistol and bullet shells from the spot. However, Acharya and his supporters claimed that the gun shots were fired into his house by unidentified men from the outside.
