Samabalpur: Sambalpur police have registered a case against the leader of BJP Legislature Party and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra on Monday for allegedly assaulting a DSP during Hanuman jayanti celebrations on Sunday.

Sambalpur District Intelligence Bureau DSP Jasobant Senapati who lodged the FIR alleged that Mishra along with two of his supporters, Girish Patel and Sibu Agarwal had forcibly intervened the work of a police officer on duty and tried to manhandle the officials using filthy language.

"We have booked the three after DSP Jasobant Senapati filed the complaint," Sambalpur SP Dilip Deo said.

The BJP legislator allegedly roughed up Senapati after police refused the movement of Hanuman Jayanti procession through the place of worship of a minority community in Motijharan on Sunday.

Mishra on the other hand has denied the allegations against him.
