Bhubaneswar: The day temperature continued to witness a steady rise in Odisha with capital city Bhubaneswar emerging as the hottest place in the State for the second consecutive day with a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
The capital city recorded a day temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Apart from Bhubaneswar, 9 places in the State recorded day temperature above 35 degrees. The mercury soared to 36.8 in Baripada, 36.6 in Cuttack, 36.5 in Nayagarh, 36.4 in Bolangir, 35.7 in Angul, 35.5 in Talcher and Bhawanipatna and 35.3 in Sambalpur.
The temperature in Bhubaneswar remained 4 degree above normal and it will rise further from March. It is expected to touch 40 degree, said the Indian Meteorological Department.
The overall temperature across Odisha is likely to rise by 2-3 degrees in the coming 3-4 days, said HR Biswas, chief scientist of the IMD regional centre Bhubaneswar.
“The maximum temperature near 40 degree during the month of February is not that unusual. If we analyse the temperature of this period for the last 10 years, the temperature remained 37 to 38 degrees. In 2019, temperature was 39.4 degree on February 23. In 2016, 40.9 degree temperature was recorded on February 20,” he said.
The weather official further predicted that dry weather is most likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha for the next five days. “No large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) during next 2-3 days and gradual rise by 2-3°c thereafter. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapar and Jagatsinghpur in the next two days,” Biswas added.
