Bhubaneswar: Expressing its displeasure over the progress made in the investigation into the Bhubaneswar minor girl gang rape case, the Orissa High Court on Monday directed Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay to appear personally during the next hearing of the case.
Informing the development, Gopal Prasad Jena, advocate of the Bharatiya Bikash Parishad, one of the petitioners said, “After hearing the arguments of the public prosecutors and our contention, the court directed the DGP to make personal appearance,” he said.
Jena said the court while expressing its displeasure over the status report submitted by the Crime Branch, directed the state police chief to file an affidavit during his personal appearance on November 18.
“The Orissa High Court has also directed the DGP to submit an affidavit regarding the progress made in the investigation of the case so far,” Jena added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mahila police in Bhubaneswar initially investigated the case before the Crime Branch took over the probe on October 6, 2020.
On August 30, a woman had lodged a complaint alleging rape of her minor daughter citing involvement of some employees of OTV, a police official and two of his associates in the crime.
