Sundergarh: The ‘Sahaya Scheme’ was launched by the State government with an aim to provide free dialysis treatment to indigent people. However, the scenario at the Sundergarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) clearly explains the scheme has lost its purpose due to the alleged negligence of hospital authorities.
As per reports, hundreds of patients suffering from kidney related ailments visit the hospital to get free medical treatment under the ‘Sahaya Scheme’. However, due to frequent power outage in the hospital, they have to return without dialysis. Besides, the generator in the hospital is lying dysfunctional.
Moreover, the dialyser washer machine has gone kaput forcing the hospital staff to clean it manually which increases the risk of infection among patients.
“Due to frequent power cuts we have to wait for long hours during dialysis. There is also high risk of infection due to defective dialyser machine," alleged Sardar Amarjeet Singh, a patient.
“As there is not a single toilet at the dialysis centre, serious patients suffer the worst. We are coming here to avail the benefits of the scheme but the mismanagement at the hospital costs us more,” said Himanshu Sekhar Sadangi, a local.
After the commencement of public-private partnership (PPP) initiative to improve healthcare at the hospital, seven dialysis centre were set up and treatment has been undertaken in three shifts. But the mismanagement in the dialysis centre deteriorates the condition of patients often, informed sources.
Responding to the complaints the Chief District Medical Officer Dilip Kumar Sadangi said steps are being taken to address the issues on priority basis.
“A new generator will be set up in a couple of days and the dialyser machine will be repaired at the earliest,” Sadangi added.
