Jagatsinghpur: Massive irregularities were alleged by beneficiaries in supply of rice, wheat and kerosene under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Jagannath colony of Paradip.
As per the charges, beneficiaries have been getting less quantity of the ration supplies than actual quota. Moreover, they have to walk two kms to reach the centre to fetch the supplies. Elderly persons, physically challenged and women face a lot of difficulties to get the supplies from these distant places, the beneficiaries alleged.
“In case we fail to fetch the supplies for one month, officials at the PDS centre do not give it in the subsequent month,” alleged a beneficiary Mamta.
“If the issue is not resolved at the earliest, we will boycott the upcoming elections. We have also decided to stage demonstration in front of the municipality office,” said President of Jagannath colony Ajit Das.
On the other hand, the dealer of the supplies said necessary steps will be taken after getting instruction from the higher-ups.
“A survey will be conducted in the colony next month to find a suitable centre where the ration supplies of two months could be stored. Necessary steps will be taken after that only,” said dealer Srimant Behera.
