Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday sought reply from Odisha government on the entire controversy surrounding the Bagala Dharmashala land in Puri.
While hearing a petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra, the Court asked the State government to submit a response on Lord Jagannath’s ownership on the Bagala Dharmashala land.
The next hearing on the matter has been fixed to be held, along with the other petitions filed on the issue, on November 2.
Earlier, BJP National Spokesperson, Sambit Patra had filed a petition in the Orissa High Court demanding the Dharmashala land to be brought back to Lord Jagannath’s ownership.
While addressing a presser in Cuttack on September 29, Patra had alleged, “There are discrepancies in that land’s Sabik Record of Rights (Sabik RoR) and Hal Record of Rights (Hal RoR).”
“As per the Sabik RoR, the area of the Dharmashala land has been mentioned as 3 acres and 190 decimal, but surprisingly the area comes down to 2 acres and 574 decimal in the Hal RoR,” Patra had stated.

Senior advocate Pitambar Acharya said on Thursday, “A new fact was presented before Orissa High Court. The Odisha government had been claiming that the land belongs to the government. Today, we argued that it is neither Bagala’s or Odisha government’s land, it is Lord Jagannath’s land.”
