Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar broke a 73 year record when the maximum temperature went up to 44.2 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the highest recorded temperature for the month of March ever since its formation as the State Capital in 1948. The Temple City was the hottest place in the State as well.
The previously recorded maximum temperature for the month was 42.2 Deg C on March 21, 2016, informed the Regional Meteorological Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Similarly, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Boudh recorded 42 degree Celsius each. Angul sizzled at 41.7 degree Celsius while Bolangir and Bhawanipatna recorded 41.5 degree C each. Maximum day temperature in Titlagarh and Nayagarh was measured at 41.2 degree C each.
The Met Centre today issued orange warning for heat wave conditions in 21 districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada for April 1 and 2.
Keeping in view the heat wave conditions, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Chief Secretary have alerted all district Collectors and advised them to take steps to circulate the message among the public.
The SRC and CS have also asked the Collectors to monitor the situation closely and take necessary actions in case of any eventuality.
