Bhubaneswar/Jagatsinghpur: Over a decade ago, Budhia Singh made history by running 65 kms from Bhubaneswar to Puri in seven hours and two minutes. He was only 4 years old then and now, another 5-year-old boy from Odisha has made a record by finishing a 72-km marathon run.
Budhaditya Swain, who stays in Kesura in Jharpara area of Bhubaneswar has reportedly participated in several marathons organised in and outside the State. Though sometimes, he is also barred from taking part in marathons because of his age.
Recently, he was not allowed to take part in a marathon organised in Paradip. However, he ran around 15 kms with ease without any signs of distress. Later, he spoke to mediapersons and said that he wants to become a police officer.
"My son has keen interest in athletics. I personally give him training. On the very first day of training, he had run 10 kms," said Budhaditya's father, Devdutt Swain.
"He has good running skills. He left many professional runners behind during his 15-km run. He has a long way to go," said Budhaditya's coach and secretary of Jagatsinghpur Judo Association, Lopamudra Pati.
Meanwhile, many feel that Budhaditya under-age may ruin his talent if proper training is not imparted to him.
