Cuttack: Eminent freedom fighter and Bhoodan movement leader Annapurna Moharana was conferred with Honoris Causa by the Central University of Odisha, Koraput here on Sunday.

University vice chancellor Surabhi Banerjee presented the citation to the 95-year-old social activist at her residence at Bakhrabad here in a brief ceremony.

The University had decided to award the honour to Moharana during its second convocation held at Sunabeda on July 29 this year. But Moharana could not make it to the convocation ceremony as she was indisposed last month.

Conferring the award, Banerjee said it was an honour for the University as the veteran freedom fighter received the honoris causa, which was a small gesture on the part of the institution to recognise the `noble karma` she had performed.

"The University feels it extremely thrilled to honour the freedom fighter who has great will power to work for the cause for the country even now," she said.
