Bhubaneswar: A special CBI court here on Tuesday granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct the test identification (TI) parade of Biban Biswal, the main accused in the 1999 Anjana Mishra gang rape case.
The TI parade will be conducted in Jharpada jail at 12 pm tomorrow by JMFC Srujalin Mohanty. During the process, Anjana Mishra will have to identify the accused from among several persons.
Apart from the TI parade, the court also allowed the CBI to take the accused on two days remand for further questioning into the case. The remand of the accused will start on March 4.
Earlier in the day, the CBI Kolkata had filed a petition in the special CBI court seeking permission to conduct TI parade and remand of Biban who was recently arrested from Maharashtra after remaining on the run for almost 22 years.
On whether she will able to identify the accused after over two decades, the survivor said, "It's a long period, but I will try my best to recognise the accused."
The survivor said the CBI must interrogate the accused to find out who had helped him flee Odisha after the gang rape and how he evaded the arrest for so many years. "It will help CBI to prove the conspiracy angle," she added.
On Monday, the Orissa High Court closed a petition filed by gang-rape survivor Anjana Mishra alleging lapses and conspiracy in the investigation carried out by the investigating agency.
