Angul: Strong resentment is brewing among the people in the district as they are not getting the opportunity for the treatment of their domestic animals in the veterinary hospitals, which are often found to be locked throughout the year.
According to local sources, many people in the district depend upon animal husbandry for their livelihood. But they are finding themselves helpless and frustrated as their domestic animals are dying out of a number of deceases due to the absence of proper treatment facilities.
“Several Veterinary Specialty Services (VSS) posts are lying vacant in many veterinary hospitals like Rengali, Banarpal and Chhinda. Most of the time, they are closed pushing the locals into a lot of trouble. Animals like cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep and poultry are dying of many diseases sans proper treatment facilities,” rued Rudra Swain, a local denizen.
“The veterinary doctors are not even responding to our phone calls. The diseases of our animals are neither diagnosed properly, nor we are supplied with proper medicines. We are now dependent upon veterinary hospitals outside the district,” said a dairy farmer Dilip Kumar Pradhan.
Meanwhile, Chief District Veterinary Officer of Angul Ranjit Kumar Das also admitted that they are handicapped due to shortage of staffs.
“Many posts are lying vacant in the district. As many as 16 posts are to be filled. Some of our staff have been given extra responsibilities. So, it’s getting difficult to cover all the areas of the district. I hope the situation will improve soon,” assured Das.
