Bhubaneswar: One out of eight anacondas, which were recently brought from Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, died at the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Thursday.
“The exact cause of death of anaconda can be ascertained only after a post mortem tomorrow,” said Nandankanan zoo authorities in a statement.
It is pertinent to mention here that the death of a few elephants in quick succession in the month of September due to herpes outbreak in the zoo had triggered concerns, particularly among wildlife lovers in the State.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sura Routray today alleged that despite being the pride of Odisha, Nandankanan zoo is becoming unsafe for animals.
“The animal deaths are mainly due to dumping of wastes from Bhubaneswar at Daruthenga near the zoo. If the State government does not take any steps to lift the garbage, we will stage a massive protest on December 24,” said Routray.
