Bhubaneswar: Banking services in the State are likely to be affected as over 30,000 bank employees of around 5,500 branches from Odisha are taking part in the two-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions starting from today.
The strike has been called against the central government’s decision in the last parliamentary session to privatise the banking sector. Bank staff from the State will stage a sit-in in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

The bank unions have termed the decision of the Indian government on privatisation of banks is like selling agricultural fields to buy rice which has no developmental point.
According to the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), about 10 lakh bank employees and officers of the banks will participate in the strike.
In the Union Budget presented last month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the privatisation of two public sector banks (PSBs) as part of its disinvestment plan.
"The government should withdraw their decision of privatising the banking sector. Otherwise we will intensify our protest in the future," said an AIBEA official.
