Gajapati: The Paralakhemundi king & two-time MP Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deo passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today. He was 76, family sources said.
As per reports he was undergoing treatment at the hospital as he was suffering from heart-related ailments.
"He was suffering from heart related problems. He was in Chennai for 6 months for treatment but was later shifted to Bhubaneswar where he had been staying for more than 3 years. He was not able to speak for quite some time and breathed his last in the ICU," said Manager of the Paralakhemundi king.
Born on March 6, 1943, Narayan Deo was a member of the 9th and 10th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Berhampur constituency and was a member of the Indian National Congress political party. He later joined BJP and shifted to Biju Janata Dal in 2009.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to express grief over death of the Paralakhemundi king. "I am very sad over the demise of Paralakhemundi king. It is an irreparable loss for Odisha," CM Naveen wrote.
Similarly, Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb also paid last respects to the Paralakhemundi king.
BJP national vice-president Baijayant Jay Panda also took to Twitter to condole the demise of Paralakhemundi king.
"Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the erstwhile Paralakhemundi royal & former Member of Parliament, Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deo ji. I knew him as a gentle, kind soul. Condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace," wrote Panda.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha also expressed grief over the death of Gopinath Gajapati.
