Bhubaneswar: After the Odisha Parents' Federation levelled allegations that general category students were being enrolled under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in DAV schools across Odisha, the State government has decided that admissions under EWS will be conducted online and under its supervision.
Instead of schools, the State government will conduct the admissions under the EWS category.
“The State government will introduce online admissions for EWS category from next session so that no private school can misuse the 25% quota facility,” said School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Das .
The Odisha Parents' Federation had lodged a complaint before Odisha State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (OSPCR) alleging violation of Right to Education Act by all DAV schools across Odisha for two consecutive years.
“The seats have been sold to general category students. We will not remain silent till appropriate action is not taken against the school,” said Basudev Bhatt, President of Odisha Parents' Federation.
However, DAV school authorities refuted the allegation saying that the admissions were done with State government’s permission.
Regional Director of DAV, Odisha Zone-1, Keshav Satpathy said, “There has been no such violation of RTE Act as the seats were allotted to general category with government’s permission.”
The OSPCR has launched an investigation and its Chairman has assured to take action if any discrepancies are found.
