Sambalpur: After being established as one of the third generation Indian Institute of Management some three years back, IIM Sambalpur is all set to participate in the National Institutional Ranking Framework.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework is a ranking methodology adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to rate institutions of higher education, said the director of the management institute, Mahadeo Jaiswal.
"We have been doing fairly well in aspects of research and innovation contribution, projects on social contribution, placements records, infrastructure and course curriculum which are the most important indicators for the NIRF rankings in the last three years. So we have decided to apply for the NIRF rankings," said Jaiswal.
From the 2018-19 sessions, the number of seats in IIM Sambalpur has been doubled from 60 to 120 while course of studies completely restructured.
“Earlier, we used to follow the course as per IIM Indore.But since it had lot of glitches, we had changed our course structure keeping in view the latest market needs and trend of other IIMs,” Jaiswal added.
With the introduction of IIM Bill, 2018, the B-schools have been granted complete autonomy and accordingly core courses which were earlier used for PG diplomas have also been upgraded to MBAs and the fellow programmes have been changed to PhDs.
Besides the IIM is also starting industry based executive programmes from this year with a focus on research, socio-economic case studies and innovation.
Presently the institute is running on a makeshift campus near Sambalpur University and state government has allotted 237 acres land at Basantpur for a permanent campus. The institute will have its own campus and will have full financial autonomy in next four years, official sources said.
However, due to delay in operationalisation of Jharsuguda airport, the institute is facing problems owing to absence of an effective transport system.
