Bhubaneswar: Losing almost 20 kgs and surviving on sea water, speaks volumes about the torture suffered by Odia sailor Sudeep Chaudhary who was recently rescued after being kidnapped, along with four other seafares, by Nigerian pirates.

Narrating the ordeal, Sudeep informed that initially nine pirates abducted him along with 4 other Indians from vessel, MT APECUS (IMO733810) anchored off Lagos, Nigeria on April 19, 2019.

“They were a well-armed group of around 60 pirates. I have returned to India after seven months and it feels like a rebirth for me,” said Sudeep.

Sudeep further informed that he endured a lot of adversities during his captivity.

“We were provided only a plate of Maggi noodles for five persons a day. The conditions were harsh as there was no water and we used to drink sea water. I have already lost 20 kgs and don’t know what diseases I have contracted,” he added.
