Bhubaneswar: A five-month-old boy is among three patients who succumbed to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Odisha. The deceased infant hailed from Rayagada district, Health and Family Welfare Department informed on Monday.
Apart from the 5-month-old, two more COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the State during the period - one in Bhubaneswar and another from Sundergarh district. The deceased include a 60-year-old woman from Bhubaneswar and a 72-year-old from Sundergarh, as per the health department. With this, the COVID-19 death toll in Odisha climbed to 1864 on Monday.
The total fatalities exclude the 53 COVID-19 positive patients who have died due to other comorbidities, sources said. Khurda district alone has accounted for 321 deaths followed by Ganjam (246), Sundergarh (166), Cuttack (138) and Puri (114).
On the other hand, there has been a slump in the COVID-19 daily positivity rate in Odisha over the last few days. The State has reported 234 fresh coronavirus infections (136 from different quarantine centres and 98 local contacts) in the past 24 hours taking the tally to 3,28,738.
The new cases were detected in 24 of the state's 30 districts. Angul district recorded the highest of 36 new cases followed by Sundargarh (28) and Khordha (25), Mayurbhanj (17), Jharsuguda (15) Cuttack (12) and Kendrapara (10). Six districts - Boudh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Puri and Rayagada - did not register any new positive case.
As per the I&PR department, the total COVID-19 active case count in the State stands at 2753, while as many as 3,24,068 patients have recovered from the disease in Odisha.
The state has so far tested 68.55 lakh samples for COVID-19 including 28,652 tests conducted on Sunday. Odisha's positivity rate now stands at 4.8 per cent, the data released by the health and family welfare department said.
