Kendrapara: Tension ran high after four persons were injured during a group clash over reopening of a liquor shop at Angulei village under Marsaghai police limits in Kendrapara district today.
Four persons including husband of Angulei Sarpanch were injured in group clash, sources said.
The incident occurred when a group of people had staged a road blockade in the area protesting opening of a liquor shop at Angulei Bazaar yesterday.
Marsaghai Tehsildar and DSP had later pacified the mob and closed the liquor shop. However, trouble erupted after the owner reopened the liquor shop this morning which led to a scuffle between two groups. The situation turned ugly when the staff of the liquor shop allegedly assaulted the husband of Angulei Sarpanch, Durgabati Pradhan and another person.
Irate over the incident, some locals thrashed the liquor shop owner and his staff and set two motorcycles on fire.
"We sat on a dharna after finding the liquor shop reopen this morning. When I raised voice, the shop owner's son misbehaved with me. When my husband opposed, he started beating my husband who sustained head injuries, " said Durgabati.
Meanwhile, Kendrapara Sadar police station IIC has assured to close the liquor shop permanently.
As per last reports, the local residents called off their agitation after Kendrapara ADM sealed the two liquor outlets in Angulai in Patakura this evening. Earlier on June 13, the agitating women blocked the Kendrapara-Orat road demanding relocation of the two outlets.
