Koraput/Balasore: Three members of a family were killed after a sand-laden truck rammed into their house while three other people sustained grievous injuries in two separate road mishaps in Odisha today.
In Koraput, a sand laden truck going from Semiliguda to Damanjodi hit a house at Bhojput village in Sunabeda area, killing a couple and their 8-year-old girl on the spot late Friday night. The lone survivor of the family, who narrowly escaped the incident but sustained minor injuries, is undergoing treatment at Damanjodi PHC.
Soon after the incident, driver of the vehicle fled the spot and is stated to be absconding.
Protesting the incident, locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Local residents have also expressed concern over the movement of the heavy vehicle through the village road instead of the national highway located closeby.
In another incident, 3 persons were seriously injured after the scorpio they were travelling in turned turtle near Kasafala bypass road in Balasore. The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
