Berhampur: Police rescued 27 children detained in a rented house to be trafficked in Balipada on the outskirts of Berhampur on Friday evening. Police have detained two persons for interrogation in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off from Childline, police raided the place and rescued them. The kids belong to Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, they added.

According to police, neither the kids were sent to any school nor provided with any basic facilities of living. Even the house where they were kept was an unregistered one.

The kids are now under the care of ‘Childline’. However, they will soon be handed over to their parents.
