Bhubaneswar: The 17 women labourers of Koraput district who were reportedly held captive for last 3 months at a brick kiln in Telangana were rescued on Friday.
Based on allegation brought by the family members of the women labourers, a joint team of Laxmipur police and officials of Labour department reached Telangana and rescued them from the brick kiln.
The women labourers identified as residents of Chuchukana and Piskadang villages under Pipalpadar panchayat in Koraput district were lured by two contractors of Rayagada district on promise of providing lucrative jobs within 50 kms of their villages. But the contractors took the labourers to a brick kiln in Telangana.
Later, after knowing their whereabouts, the family members of the workers reached the brick kiln and urged the owner to release the women. But the brick kiln owner reportedly said that the girls would not be released until the contractors depose before him.
Disheartened, the family members of the women labourers sought help from the local administration and police to rescue the stranded women.
