Rourkela: A portion of the bridge connecting Mandira Dam in Rourkela collapsed on Monday affecting transport and communication in the region.

According to sources, as many as 13 villages and Rajgangpur have been cut-off from the Steel City due to the bridge collapse.

While the engineering department of Rourkela has already started inspection of the bridge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) will reportedly start construction of a bypass road from tomorrow to connect the villages.

Meanwhile, RSP authorities said that plying of heavy 16-wheel vehicles on the bridge led to the collapse.
