Jajpur: As many as 126 students skipped Monday`s papers for the ongoing Matriculation examination at a centre in Jajpur district.

Altogether 350 regular students of four high schools were writing the examination at Damodar Vidyapeeth centre at Achyutpur under Dharmasala police station, Centre Superintendent Tapanbala Das said.

But on Friday, the squad engaged by Board of Secondary Education (BSE), visited the centre for the stipulated two-and-a-half hours period following complaints about irregularities and malpractices, Das said.

Several students were unable to answer queries made by the squad members, Das said adding 126 students did not turn up for today`s papers and the cause of their sudden absence was unknown.

Sources, however, said that many students resorting to malpractice were perturbed over the squad`s visit on Friday.

Cricle Inspector Kapilendra Das said allegations of malpractice at the centre had been received and the matter was being looked into.
