Berhampur: One person was killed and five others including a woman and her baby girl injured in separate incidents in Ganjam district, police said.

While Santosh Pandi (28) died, his two brothers suffered serious injuries when unidentified men attacked them at Chhachina village under Kodala police station on Friday night.

Santosh succumbed to injuries during treatment at M K C G Medical College Hospital.

"We suspect previous enemity between two groups in the village as cause behind the incident," the Inspector-in-charge, Kodala, B R Sahu said.

The duo had reportedly some dispute ever since working together at Surat in Gujarat and returned to the village for the ensuing Raja festival on June 14-15.

In another incident, three members of a family, including a four-year-old girl, were injured when an ex-serviceman neighbour fired at them at Bandhapalli village under Aska police station limits last night.

The injured were admitted to Aska hospital, police said. The accused, identified as Kaibalay Das - a security officer in a private bank in Berhampur - was arrested.

A pistol, six rounds of ammunition were seized from the accused, he said. Long-standing dispute between the two families was stated to be reason behind the incident, police said.
