At least two persons were killed and another sustained critical injuries after the bike they were travelling on hit a roadside tree near Kokamunda area under Kesinga police limits of Kalahandi district on Sunday.
As per reports, the mishap occurred while the trio was travelling on a bike at a high speed when the rider lost control. The speedy vehicle veered off the road and hit a roadside tree on NH 26. While two of them died on the spot, one of them was seriously injured and rushed to Bhawanipatna Hospital by locals.
However, the identities of the trio are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the police have recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem. An investigation into the matter is on.
The Odisha Vigilance on Sunday arrested a senior clerk posted in the Telsildar office of Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur district on bribery charges.
A complaint in this regard was registered with the Cuttack Vigilance.
As per the Vigilance, Pranakrushna Nayak, a senior clerk in the office of Naugaon Tehsildar was apprehended for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for releasing a sand-loaded tripper of the complainant.
Following the complaint, the Cuttack Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Nayak red-handed while taking the bribe money.
Simultaneous searches have been launched on the properties of Nayak at Ohala and his office in Jagatsinghpur district, sources in the Vigilance added.
Earlier, Nayak was also arrested by the Cuttack Vigilance for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 3,905 for issuing a patta. The case has been charge-sheeted and is under trial.
Two armed bike-borne miscreants allegedly attacked and looted Rs 2.75 lakh from the manager of a petrol pump near Paramhans Chhak on National Highway- 149 under Parjang Police Station limits in Dhenkanal district on Sunday night.
The two miscreants reportedly wore face masks and came on a black Pulsar.
The assailants attacked the manager of Maa Fuels identified as Sanjay Kumar Sahoo while he was on his way to Talcher in Angul district with a bag full of cash.
After following me for some 500 meters, the two goons brandished a gun and were about to attack me with a sharp weapon. During the tussle with them, I fell down on the ground, Sahoo alleged.
Taking the opportunity, the two miscreants snatched the bag from me and fled the spot, Sahoo added.
Meanwhile, Parjang Police officials have rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
While the identity of the arrested persons are yet to be revealed, the police said the other three accused include a customer, a pimp and a staff of the hotel. More
