Cyclone Update: Low Pressure Area Now Lies Over Central Parts Of Andaman Sea

The low pressure area now lies over central parts of the Andaman Sea and will concentrate into a depression by December 2, as per the latest observation of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Umashankar Das, Scientist at IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar informed that the system will intensify into a cyclonic storm over the central Bay of Bengal by December 3 and reach Odisha-north Andhra coasts by December 4 morning. Earlier in the day, IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told OTV that under the impact of the cyclone several parts of Odisha will start experiencing rainfall activities from December 3 and some parts will experience heavy to very heavy and isolated heavy rainfall (more than 20 cms) on December 4, 2021.

Odisha: Bangomunda Police Station IIC In Vigilance Net, Rs 2.06L Cash Seized

The Odisha Vigilance sleuths seized Rs2.06 lakh cash from Binod Bihari Nayak, IIC at the Bangomunda Police Station in Bolangir district after intercepting his car near a toll gate in Bargargh on Tuesday.

Vigilance sources said Nayak was intercepted while he was on his way to his house at Kuchinda from Bangomunda in the evening.

Sources said during initial questioning Nayak could not give satisfactory answers about the source of the cash which was found on him.

Meanwhile, the anti-corruption wing has launched simultaneous raids at four properties belonging to the senior police official in Bolangir, Sambalpur and Deogarh.

Odisha Student Consumes Poison After Being Slapped In College For Not Repaying Loan

A 16-year-old student tried to take his own life in Odisha's Sambalpur district after being allegedly slapped by a retired lecturer for being unable to return a loan of Rs 10,000, he had borrowed from him, police said on Tuesday.

The boy, a student of BRG Plus-II College in Bhojpur, also runs a paan shop in the area, they said.

He borrowed Rs 10,000 from the retired lecturer of Jamankira College, which, he was supposed to pay back with interest, police added.

As he was unable to repay the loan, the retired lecturer on Monday went to BRG College, where the boy studies, and slapped him in a classroom full of students, police said.

Humiliated in front of his classmates, the boy bought pesticide from the market and consumed it, they said.

The boy is at present undergoing treatment at the Kuchinda sub-divisional hospital and his condition is stated to be critical, police said.

The matter is being probed and a case will be registered, said Sobhakara Seth, the inspector-in-charge of Kuchinda police station.
