BSF Jawan Kills Self With Service Revolver At Odisha's Umerkote

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself from his service revolver at a BSF camp under Raighara police station in Umerkote on Saturday, police said.

The deceased jawan, a resident of Telangana, has been identified as D. Gobardhan.

The reason behind the extreme act by the Jawan deployed in Anti-Naxal operation is yet to be known.

Biker Killed, Woman Pillion Rider Missing In Boudh Road Mishap

In a tragic incident, a biker was killed while the pillion rider went missing following an accident on a bridge over the Mahanadi River in Boudh on Saturday.

According to reports, the mishap took place when a speeding car rammed into the bike from rear. In the impact of the accident, while the rider died on the spot, the pillion, a woman, went missing.

Sources said, the woman is suspected to have fallen into the razing river causing her disappearance.

Man Held For Duping Bhubaneswar Investors Of Over Rs 90 Lakh On Pretext Of High Returns

The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly duping dozens of people in Bhubaneswar to the tune of over Rs 90 lakh on the pretext of providing them high returns on investments.

The accused has been identified as Om Prakash Bharawat and he has been arrested by the Khandagiri police from Madhya Pradesh.

According to sources, Bharawat lured people by promising 15 per cent returns against investment in the international market. He won the trust of the unsuspecting investors by providing high interest in the initial days. However, he later fled with their invested money.

Finding no other options, the victims finally lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri police on July 16 following which the police had launch a manhunt to nab the accused. He was finally traced to a location in Madhya Pradesh from where he has been arrested.

Bike-Borne Miscreants Loot Rs 1.46 Lakh From Man At Gunpoint In Khordha

In a daring broad daylight robbery, two armed bike-borne miscreants looted Rs 1.46 lakh from a man at gunpoint near Simor area under Baghamari police station in Khordha district on Saturday.

According to sources, the incident occurred when one Jitendra Kumar Guru of Kadhamal village was returning home after withdrawing cash from an ATM in Baghamari area.

Two bike-borne miscreants accosted and intercepted Jitendra in Simor area. They overpowered him and decamped with the cash kept in a bag, sources added.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at the Baghamari police station. Investigation into the matter is on.
