Border Dispute: Andhra Once Again Installs Sign Board At Kotia

Taking advantage of the recent Cyclone Gulab, the Andhra Pradesh government has once again installed a signboard in its local language at the disputed Kotia region in Odisha's Koraput district. The Andhra government has reportedly installed the board near Odisha's signboard at Phatusineri. 3 Including Couple Killed In Lightning In Odisha

Three people including a couple were killed in a lightning mishap at Badmal village under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur on Monday. As per sources, Antaryami Sahoo and his wife Lilima along with another native of the village Paru Bag were working in farmland when a lightning struck them. All three of them reportedly lost their lives at the spot.

Ganja Worth Rs 80 Lakh Seized In Malkangiri, 7 Including Minor Arrested

Police on Monday seized a huge cache of ganja weighing over 8 quintals while being transported in an auto-rickshaw in Malkangiri district. Acting on a tip-off, cops intercepted the vehicle for inspection and confiscated the contraband. Sources said the consignment was being shipped to Andhra Pradesh from Chitrakonda area in Malkangiri. After a preliminary inquiry, police have arrested as many as 7 people including a minor in connection with the smuggling of the narcotics.

NABARD Sanctions Rs 206 Cr For 25 Road Projects In Odisha

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 206 crore to the Odisha government for construction of 25 roads, officials said on Monday.

The assistance has been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for 25 rural road projects in 11 districts across the state, said NABARD's Odisha region office in a statement.

The projects with a combined length of 203 km will improve rural road connectivity for 20.48 lakh people in 1723 villages.

The Odisha works department will construct the roads and infrastructure projects will play a key role in supporting the rural economy by improving the livelihoods of people, it said.

This sanction is in line with the priority given by the state government for developing critical rural infrastructure for drinking water supply, irrigation and rural connectivity (roads and bridges).

Couple Attacked Over Son's Illicit Affair, One Dead

A woman died while her husband suffered critical wounds after they were allegedly attacked by a man at Junadihi village under Sadar police limits in Sundergarh district late on Sunday night. Sources said, the couple--Madhu Oram and Bachi Oram-- were attacked by one Kartik Tiga who suspected the couple's son Bal Oram of having an illicit affair with his wife. An angry Tiga reached the house of Bal last night with an intension to kill him. Finding Bal absent in the house, the accused allegedly attacked his parents with an axe. Police along with a scientific team reached the crime spot today morning and launched an investigation. However, no arrest has been made as the accused is absconding.
