A man allegedly involved in the illegal sale of liquor went missing after he jumped into a river during a chase by Excise department officials in Balasore district on Monday. The incident reportedly took place near Srijanga under Khantapada Police limits in the district. The man was among the four illicit liquor traders who were fleeing on a motorcycle after being chased by the Excise officials. While the excise team managed to nab three of them, the fourth one jumped into Kantiachira river in order to evade arrest. A search operation is underway to trace the missing person.

The Odisha government on Monday announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the family of Jyoti Prakash Behera, a 15-year-old student who died after reportedly falling into an open sewer in Bhubaneswar on Sunday afternoon.
Jyoti’s body was found near Panchasakha Nagar in the State Capital today following more than 16 hours of searches which involved hundreds of fire brigade personnel, policemen and volunteers.
Speaking to media, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Panda said, “A compensation of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to the bereaved family as per the relief code.”
Notably, Jyoti fell into the floodwater-filled turbulent drain with his cycle near Satabdi Nagar Bank Colony in Siripur area while going to attend tuition classes on Sunday afternoon.
In no time, he was swept away by the heavy current in the drain due to torrential rain.
