School Student Swept Away In Drain In Bhubaneswar

A 15-year-old school student went missing after falling into an open sewer in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The student who is yet to be identified is a native of Satabdi Nagar Bank Colony in Siripur area. Local residents have launched a search and rescue operation to trace the missing boy. According to reports, the victim slipped into the flooded drain while going to attend tuition classes. Unfortunately, he was swept away by the heavy current in the drain due to torrential rain.

Fire Breaks Out At IOCL Terminal In Paradip

A Fire broke out at Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s oil terminal located at Bauria Palanda in Paradip on Sunday.

Thick smoke was seen blowing out of the terminal after the incident. 

No casualty has been reported in the mishap. The reason behind the outbreak of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Boat Capsizes In Paradip, 2 Go Missing

As many as two persons went missing after a fishing boat capsized in the Mahanadi river near Nehru Banglow in Paradip on Sunday.

Three of the fishermen were rescued by the local fishermen. Rescue operation is still on at the time of reporting.

According to local residents, the mishap might have been caused due to high current in the overflowing river.

Hirakud Closes 4 More Gates, Flood Water Being Released Through 8

As the inflow of water into the Hirakud reservoir reduced on Sunday, the dam authorities closed down four more sluice gates to keep the water level balanced.

Following this, water is currently being discharged through eight gates only, informed the authorities.

It is pertinent to mention here that, following heavy rains in the uppercatchment areas of the Mahanadi river, as many as 28 sluice gates were opened in Hirakud on Friday which has been reduced to eight now.

Drinking In Public Places: 40 Persons Detained In Special Drive By Sambalpur Police

As many as 40 offenders in different parts of Sambalpur were detained on the charges of consuming alcohol in public places and creating nuisance.

As per reports, 23 offenders were detained by Khetrajpur police, 14 by Town Police and three by Sadar Police for drinking in public places, creating nuisance and inconvenience to commuters, especially women. All the offenders were detained and issued prosecution reports after proper counselling, police said.

Odisha Reports 623 Covid-19 Cases; 95 New Cases In 0 to 18 Years Category

 As many as 623 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported from different parts of Odisha in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally to 10,20,244 on Sunday.

Of the total 623 new positives, 95 cases of Covid-19 infections are in the age group of 0 to 18 years, tweeted I & PR department. Maximum of 272 cases were reported from Khordha district, followed by 74 cases in Cuttack and 29 cases from Jagatsinghpur district.
