DRDO Espionage Case: Another Staff Held, Arrest Tally Mounts To 5

The police on Thursday arrested one more staff of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in connection with the espionage ring which was busted on Tuesday. With this, the total number of accused arrested in the case so far has gone up to five.

The latest arrested accused has been identified as one Sachin Kumar, who worked as a driver at DRDO’s Intermediate Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur of Balasore district.

Earlier, four contractual workers at the top defence facility had been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information to foreign agents, mostly belonging to the Pakistani spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrests came four years after the arrest of a contractual photographer at the top defence establishment on similar charges. He was later convicted and serving a life term in jail.

Odisha Reports 580 New COVID-19 Cases, 4 Fatalities In Last 24 Hrs

The daily Covid-19 caseload maintained its downward curve in Odisha as the State registered 580 infections on Thursday including 77 cases in the 0-18 years age group, informed State Information and Public Relations Department. As many as 336 cases were found in quarantine and 244 were local cases.

While the State’s coronavirus tally stood at 10,18,298, four more fatalities pushed the death toll to 8,118. Khordha district, comprising State capital Bhubaneswar, recorded the highest number of new infections (261), followed by Cuttack (87) and Jajpur (29).

As many as 561 patients recovered from the disease on Thursday taking the total number of recovery to 10,04,164. The State has currently 5,963 active patients.
