Over 50 Lakh People Fully Vaccinated Against Covid-19 In Odisha   

More than half a crore people in Odisha have become fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as they have taken both doses of vaccines, informed the State Health Department on  Wednesday. “Happy to share that more than 50 lakh citizens have been successfully administered two doses of #COVID19Vaccines in #Odisha,” wrote the Health and Family Welfare Department. “We are thankful to all citizens for their proactive participation in our fight against #COVID19,” it added.

Andhra Intrudes Into Kotia Again, Distributes Animal Health Card

Throwing a challenge again to the Odisha government, officials of the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday intruded into the disputed Kotia Panchayat and distributed animal health cards to the locals. 

According to sources, a team of veterinary doctors from the neighboring state visited Talasembi, Uparsembi, Ganjeipadar areas and offered treatment to domestic animals.

The team also distributed animal health cards to the villagers, sources informed adding that the medical team also vaccinated 300 cattle in the area.

Helper Of Passenger Bus Killed In Road Mishap At Cuttack

A man, working as a helper of a passenger bus, was killed after he slipped from the vehicle near Tangi Baichuan on NH-16 in Cuttack district today.

The deceased has been identified as Sadanand Jena, a resident of Bandala Village in Jajpur district.

According to sources, the bus was en route to Cuttack from Keonjhar when a truck recklessly tried to overtake near Baichuan. Jena who was standing near the door of the bus lost balance and slipped when the driver of the bus tried to maneuver in order to avoid collision with the truck. He died due to the fall.

However, the passengers inside the bus were safe while the drivers of both the vehicles fled the spot after the incident.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter after seizing the vehicles. Jena’s body has been sent for post mortem.

ATM Loot Bid Foiled In Bhubaneswar, 2 Detained

The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday detained two persons who allegedly attempted to loot cash from an ATM kiosk at Badheibanka Chhak in Old Town area of Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, the Lingaraj Police detained the two suspects when they were allegedly planning to loot the ATM by hacking the machine. 

However, another associate of the two accused managed to escape, sources in the Police said.

"We have detained two persons for their involvement in an ATM loot bid. However, another person has managed to escape. During preliminary investigation it was found they hail from an outside state," Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash said.

"They were caught while trying to do something suspicious at the ATM kiosk. Further investigation into the matter is on," Dash added.

Odisha Vigilance Arrests Adarsha Vidyalaya Principal On Bribery Charges

The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Sujan Kumar Sahu, the acting Principal of Adarsha Vidyalaya school in Nuapada district while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.

The Vigilance had registered an offence against Sahu based on a complaint wherein the complainant alleged that the former had sought bribe for updating his service book and sanctioning annual increment.

Man Jumps Onto Wife's Pyre In Odisha, Dies

Leaving everyone shocked to the hilt, a man reportedly ended his life by jumping onto the pyre of his wife in an Odisha village on Tuesday.

The incident reportedly happened in Sialjodi village of Dharamgarh area in Kalahandi district.

As per sources, one Raibati Sabar of the village passed away after suffering a heart attack last evening. Her husband and four sons along with other acquaintances took her mortal remains to the village crematorium for the last rites.

After completion of customary funeral rituals in presence of all, Raibati was laid to rest on the pyre. Most of those who participated in the rites also returned from the crematorium ground. However, taking everyone by surprise, Raibati's husband Nilamani all of a sudden jumped onto the pyre.

Despite all efforts, other fellowmen could not rescue Nilamani from the strong blaze and he died.
