Western Odisha Artistes Come Together To Revive Doordarshan's Sambalpur Unit

Members of Western Odisha Artistes Organisation staged a protest outside Sambalpur District Collector’s office on Tuesday demanding recruitment of staffers in Sambalpur Doordarshan Kendra.

Prominent artistes like Padmashri Jitendra Haripal, Haldhar Nag and Mitrabhanu Gountia too joined the protest along with Bargarh MLA Suresh Pujari. “We will approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leave no stone unturned to ensure the revival of the Doordarshan Kendra,” Pujhari said.

The protesters cited that the revival of the art and culture of Western Odisha depends on the full staff recruitment of the Doordarshan unit in Sambalpur.

Speaking to OTV, Bhubaneswar Pradhan, who played the role of Kansa in the world-famous Dhanu Jatra in Bargarh said that non-appointment of adequate staff is a ploy to shut down Doordarshan Kendra in Western Odisha.

The situation is continuing since the 90s as the DD continues to increase its work due to economic drive while the staff strength keeps on decreasing.
