Online Mulakat Rolled Out For Prisoners In 2 Odisha Jails

In order to facilitate prisoners to meet their near and dear ones virtually, online mulakat facility has been introduced in two jails in Odisha on Monday on a pilot basis. The facility has been made available for inmates of Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar and Choudwar jail in Cuttack. "Now, one can schedule mulakat from home by following simple process. Officers of all jails have been given demo training in this regard. On the first day, six persons opted for e-mulakat to meet inmates in Jharpada jail," a statement issued by the State prison authorities said. "From August 15, we intend to start at all district jails and circle jails. Subsequently all sub-jails," the statement added.

Ganja Worth Rs 1 Crore Seized In Koraput, 1 Arrested

In a major bust, ganja weighing over 1 ton was seized from a vehicle at Jeypore ghat under Koraput district on Monday. The market value of the contraband is expected to be more than Rs 1 crore.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sadar Police apprehended the vehicle and seized the ganja including cash worth Rs 1.8 Lakh from the peddler. One person has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized in this connection. The ganja was reportedly sourced from Pottangi and was smuggled to other states through Jeypore, informed the police.
